Were the detents checked the balls on the shift rails or one that's part of the linkage? Too bad the gear clearances weren't checked as long as you were in there although I can't see a connection. I wonder how you get it released after it locks up. I imagine the TX isn't synchromesh so the tractor is stopped when shifting. I'd try it in 2wd if it has 4wd. I'd also try to reason what about an incline might do it. Does it also happen if the front end is lifted with the loader? ....

BOOGIE, I can email you a pdf file of the L245DT parts manual which may give a good breakdown of the parts and component that should be in the shifter plate and assemblies. I would also recommend that you call Ronnie Bowman at Tractor Smart. He has a good bit of experience and knowledge on these machines and was VERY helpful to me when I had mine. Tell him Randy sent you; I think he still may remember me. ....

THE WORKSHOP MANUAL REALLY DOESN'T HAVE THAT MUCH INFO ON THE COVER PLATES. I'M GOING TO TRY IT IN 2WD TO SEE IF THE PROBLEM STILL IS THERE IF IT IS I WILL NEED THE PARTS MANUAL SECTION YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT. THANKS ....

Sounds to me like the clutch may be sticking or is out of adjustment. Another possibility is a broke pressure plate release pivot bolt. A friend had a similar problem with his International 424 and was able to replace the bolt without splitting the tractor by rotating the broken bolt to the bottom of the bellhousing. ....

A worn detent ball in the shifting linkage can create some 'locking' between gears. Excessive pedal free play at the top can cause the clutch to drag even when the pedal is fully depressed, which can cause hard shifting. The PTO shafts on some tractor 'free wheel' a bit--they turn some but aren't powered. Somebody who knows the tractor may be able to say if it's normal. ....
